Walk 23 – The Kennet & Avon Canal

An optional starting point for this walk is the George Inn, Bathampton. The pub are happy for walkers to use their car park, and it means you can have refreshments after the walk.

Changes to the landscaping around Sham Castle mean changes to the text, so last paragraph on page 140 After point L, Now read: “With your back to the folly you have a great view over Bath. Descend to the edge of the trees on your right and pick up a path (no waymark) that goes down to the left, to reach the entrance driveway to the golf club, which you cross…”

The wooden gate into woods just past H is now overgrown. Easiest just to stay on road a bit further and take right turn into museum overspill car park. The wooden fence with stile between H & I (where you turn left into university playing fields) is a metal gate now.

Just past Point I, the fenced enclosure on left is no longer there - presumably it was to protect a stand of young trees which are now mature enough not to need protection.
