Walk 19 – Kingscote & Nailsworth

22 May 2005

Having rewalked this route, there a a few changes to report:

Landowners have now cleared the correct cross-field paths in three fields – two between points A & B, and one near the end of the walk after point P. All guide you to the relevant stiles.

last paragraph, page 103 – I missed the waymark post and overgrown gateway!

Last paragraph, page 104 – the open field on the left is now fenced, so climb the stile on the left before going diagonally across, then climb a pair of stiles either side of the lane to reach the lone tree.

13 July 2010 (part of the WWA e-book revision)

Page 99, line 4. The stretch of grass is now gravel, and the stile is no longer there.
Page 100. After point C, the ‘Bell & Castle’ is currently closed.

Page 103. After point I, you really do need to follow the instructions carefully. At the cross-paths, with the roofs of houses down to your left, when you turn right you stay on this path and continue in the same direction. Don’t get diverted onto the one with the overgrown gate, which takes you too high.

Page 105. At Point O the key point is, as the text suggests, to 'turn back sharp right' and cross the field - there is a path to the stile and entry to the wood but cleared by walkers and not by the farmer - so it's not immediately obvious.

Thanks to Gary Gee for the information.
